A year ago, we replaced our steel tanks with an aluminium tank and a stainless steel tank.

Since then, we’ve traveled through very different climatic regions and driven on countless gravel roads totalling more than 15,000 km.

Now that a year has passed, we’re taking a look at how the tanks have performed.

First, the stainless steel tank: aside from a few tiny scratches, it still looks almost brand new.

As for the aluminum tank, you can see that the material is softer, as the tank has a small dent and the scratches are a bit deeper. You can also clearly see how the tank forms its protective layer and takes on a matte appearance.

But overall, both are still in great condition and performing as expected.

If you’d ask me at this point, what I’d choose between painted steel, aluminium or stainless steel, I’d have the following answer for you:

– If you have to watch your budget, painted steel tanks are still a good option. But you have to consider that in the future it might be necessary to repaint them, which adds an additional cost.

– Personally, I think the aluminium tank is a very good option. It offers a great balance between pricing, weight and resistance.

– However, if you want the toughest material and extra weight and pricing are not an issue, then stainless steel tanks are the way to go.
